Many of my posts address ways to continue trusting God in your wait, but I haven’t really talked about what to do when God answers those prayers. What do we do after all our hoping, praying and believing?
- Celebrate
- Your long-awaited prayer has been answered and now it’s time to celebrate! How you choose to do that is up to you, but just do it! Maybe it’s ordering a cake, taking a trip, throwing a party, going shopping, having a dance party or reflecting in prayer. Only you know what rejoicing looks like for you and your situation. No matter how “big” or “small” your request, your story is a testament to God’s faithfulness and an open door to share Him with the world. That’s all the reason you need to celebrate!
- A lesson I recently learned relating to this is not feeling guilty for the gifts God gives us. He made the decision to give us those gifts, not the other way around. While others may still be waiting, you can still celebrate yours and be respectful of them. Continue to support them and be ready to celebrate the gifts God gives them.
- Tell Everyone
- I literally mean everyone. Tell the whole world that God answered your prayer. This is the moment you get to share your story to bring God glory. People need to know that God answers prayers and your situation is proof of that. This is not bragging. 2 Corinthians 10:17 reminds us, “But he who boasts is to boast in the Lord.” It’s okay to proudly share your good news. As long as you remember it’s ultimately about God getting the credit for answering your prayers, not yourself.
You might be saying, hold up Melissa, my prayer hasn’t been answered. I get it, maybe that big prayer request – to get pregnant, adopt, buy a house, find a spouse, be in remission – hasn’t been answered yet. But I encourage you to find the times God has. Maybe to you they were only small answers to prayer, or maybe they’re things you take for granted, like waking up every morning, but remember this: God answered your prayer. That means we can trust Him to do it again, and again and again.
